As I'm crocked for the foreseeable future I will not be getting out on the water and hence no real blogging. (Reason why here) So guys n'gals it's over to you to now carry on the blogging tradition by letting everyone know when, where and what your session was like!

Amazing couple of days over at the Witterings, 3-4ft clean sets, especially yesterday in light offshore winds, we even had a seal in the surf opposite East Strand

Currently sitting in Zermatt waiting for lifts to open and meeting our off piste guide.

There had been such intense snow storms that yesterday the entire resort was shut. A few of the really keen (the type that check the SSS weather page daily, even when they know it is f1, just in case) waited at the base station fully kitted up ready for the 1 o'clock update, but alas, avalanche danger was so high they refused to open even the lowest of lifts.

All morning you could hear the sound of avalanches, roaring like a jumbo jet, and in the afternoon the sound of dynamite as they tried to ready the pistes.

So today has a lot to answer for, there is about a meter of fresh powder up there, and the sky is blue. Just 3 minutes until they update the open lifts report so I will sign off.

Last day in the mountains so it is back to obsessing over the inshore waters and Gavin's daily update.

Looking forward to the 2012 kitesurfing season!!!

who were the windsurfers out at Ham road?? Some nice moves? Maybe Jai out there throwing doubles??

Jan 2 - whoever decided to make this a bank holiday must have been a wind/kitesurfer... turneed into a classic day - and a great start to the year!!! I was out down off worthing front, but took some photos from the cafe too!...

Well I had to get out for the first wind of the year.

Met up with my buddy Leigh for a super January the 1st kite surf session. It was mixed early on around 1030am but after a quick lull it blew 20mph. Had some nice rides on the in coming tide, knee high waves and some fine jumps to take.

Anyway great way to start the year ( hoping tomorrow comes through too ) ....... Tuesday looks epic!

I was having a surf today (not kite or windsurf just the standard type) at the caf on the push to high. One of the pleasures of paddling around in the crap wind swell is watchin all the kites an so on hooning about, pulling off those smooth airs right in front of the caf etc. awesome. There were loads of kites an windsurfers out today an im glad to see it. well there were loads out until the wind dropped suddenly just before high tide and everyone got out. Anyway It seems most folk that swing right into the leeward side of the rocks where we're surfing are pretty nifty an never cause a crash. Keep up the good show. Although one guy today was impressivly kitesurfing unstrapped on a surfboard, looks like cheating to me cos it was more kite pull than wave energy when he got on a ride.. on one particular wave he was draggin left while a surfer was trimmin right on the same wave? then on the next round the same surfing kitesurfer cut right past the same paddle surfer sitting waiting for a wave? So yeah it was good fun for all today but it made me think how we all share this little spot (even the stubborn fishermen sometimes) so keep your eyes peeled and enjoy.. especially keep your eyes peeled for the paddling surfer, slow moving, small and just after a few smooth rides.

Well, back in the late 70's when I started surfing at the Cafe, windurfers were almost non existent and I suspect kiters had not even been thought of. However, even then, at some surf spots crowds would become an issue if someone started 'dropping in'. The last time I surfed West Beach I came out of the water because some c*ck who kept on dropping in took a swipe at Rob Vaughan ( now head shaper for Billabong surfboards in France). Rob is a lovely guy and very mellow, he just protested at this c*ck's attitude. The guy just seemed to think he had a better right to be there than any one else.
Well we all know that's not the case and ALL water users have to share the seas with each other.
I think it'd be a pretty dumb 'waterman' who held a starboard tack and collided with another waterman who hadn't seen them to later claim, they were in the right because they were on a starboard tack! Simple truth is if you see a collision coming do something about and take action to avoid. However, don't then hurl abuse at the other party, that isn't going to teach anything about courtesy etc, make an effort to have a POLITE word and explain what they may have missed and ask them to take more care.
This isn't a rant, it's all about going out and sharing the waters, some days we may be lucky and get it all to ourselves, fine, enjoy those days and on the rest of the week, whether it's swimmers/surfers/kiters/windsurfers, just keep an eye open and get on with enjoying yourself, don't lower yourself to the status of some c*ck in his car flicking v-signs and mouthing off, that's not cool!

I think Lewis will agree with me that it's not just a kiter vs windsurfer issue, as kiters get in the way of kiters and windsurfers get in the way of windsurfers. We all know one windsurfer who is nigh on blind when sailing and we give him a wide berth!

A while back, a well known "Worthing Couple" were out windsurfing, and the lady of the household was out the back wondering where her man was, she gybed to come back in and turning, came down the swell and ended up piercing her fella who was in the water with the nose of her board breaking a couple of his ribs!!!

We all just need to be aware of who's around us and treat every one as a potential "cock" if you do not know them!

And luckily it's not as bad as skiing / snowboarding when collisions are more frequent and people do end up dying as a result!

A couple of months ago I was in the water body dragging back to my board just down wind from the cafe and a windsurfer gybed round and rode straight over the top of me. I had a 10 metre kite at 12 o'clock above me so I'm not sure how he didn't see me. I was pretty lucky I wasn't seriously injured. My leg was trapped between my surf board and his fin as he went over me and his fin broke the skin underneath my wet suit, I could hardly walk for days. I realised it was an accident so didn't make any thing of it.
Both kiters and windsurfers have room to surf in the cove carving turns etc, we just both have to be aware of each other when we do it and there's really only room for one at a time.
