A strengthening northerly or northwesterly air flow will affect the United Kingdom as high pressure remains slow moving to the southwest and areas of low pressure deepen to the north and east.

Cape Wrath to Rattray Head including Orkney - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: Northwest 4 or 5, increasing 6 or 7 later. Mainly slight in Moray Firth at first, otherwise moderate or rough, becoming rough or very rough north and west of Orkney later. Showers, squally later. Good.

Outlook:  North or northwest 6 to gale 8. Moderate or rough, but very rough north and west of Orkney. Squally showers. Moderate or good.

Rattray Head to Berwick upon Tweed - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: In north, northwesterly 4 or 5, increasing 6 or 7 in far north later, in south, variable 3 or less, becoming northwesterly 4 or 5. Slight or moderate, becoming moderate or rough in far north later. Showers. Good.

Outlook:  Northwest 4 or 5 increasing 6 to gale 8. Moderate or rough, but mainly slight in firths of Forth and Tay. Showers becoming squally. Good.

Berwick upon Tweed to Whitby

24 hour forecast: North or northwest 4 or 5, becoming variable 3 or less for a time. Slight or moderate. Mainly fair. Good.

Whitby to Gibraltar Point - Strong winds are forecast

Gibraltar Point to North Foreland - Strong winds are forecast

North Foreland to Selsey Bill

24 hour forecast: Northerly 5 in far east, otherwise mainly northerly or northwesterly 3 or 4. Slight, but moderate in far east. Mainly fair. Good.

Selsey Bill to Lyme Regis

Lyme Regis to Lands End including the Isles of Scilly - Strong winds are forecast

Lands End to St Davids Head including the Bristol Channel - Strong winds are forecast

St Davids Head to Great Orme Head including St Georges Channel - Strong winds are forecast
