General Situation at 1200 UTC on Thu 23 May 2013

An anticyclone centred in mid Atlantic will remain slow moving. A depression centred over the North Sea, will move to East Anglia by Friday morning, as a filling feature, and then move slowly southwards across eastern France on Saturday.

Cape Wrath to Rattray Head including Orkney - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: North 5 to 7, occasionally gale 8 at first, decreasing 3 or 4 later. Moderate or rough, but very rough for a time in north and east. Rain or squally showers, fair later. Moderate or good, but poor for a time in east.

Outlook:  North, becoming variable, 3 or 4. Slight or moderate, but rough for a time in north and east. Fair. Good.

Rattray Head to Berwick upon Tweed - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: Northwest 6 to gale 8, veering northeast 4 or 5 later. Moderate or rough, but locally very rough for a time. Squally showers, rain for a time. Moderate or good, but poor for a time in north.

Outlook:  Northeast 4 or 5, becoming variable 3 or 4. Slight or moderate, occasionally rough at first. Showers at first in south. Good.

Berwick upon Tweed to Whitby - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: Northwest, veering north, 6 to gale 8, then veering northeast 5 or 6 later. Rough or very rough. Squally showers, rain for a time. Moderate or good, occasionally poor.

Whitby to Gibraltar Point - Strong winds are forecast

Channel Islands - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: Northwest 5 to 6, locally 7 later this afternoon. Rather rough becoming rough. Isolated showers, becoming more frequent on Friday. Good.

Outlook:  Northwest 6 to 7, perhaps locally gale 8, veering north to northeast in the evening, decreasing 5 by morning, 3 to 4 by midday. Rather rough to rough becoming slight to moderate. Scattered showers, perhaps prolonged for a time later Friday morning, dying out in the evening. Good except in showers.
